DBAssistant
DBAssistant is a powerful new addition to Database Health Monitor, designed to help you manage and optimize your SQL Server environment with clarity and precision. It brings configuration insights, health evaluations, and guided actions right into your workflow.
What Is DBAssistant?
DBAssistant is an interactive, in-app assistant that helps you evaluate the health and configuration of your SQL Server environment. It doesn’t just identify issues — it helps you resolve them.
When a problem is found, DBAssistant explains what’s wrong, why it matters, and what actions you can take. In many cases, it provides:
- One-click automated fixes (such as adjusting a setting)
- T-SQL scripts you can run in SQL Server Management Studio (SSMS)
- Links to instance-level configuration reports for deeper visibility
- Additional learning resources (like articles or video walkthroughs)
Example: Max Server Memory
If DBAssistant detects that the Max Server Memory setting is too high, it will:
- Recommend an appropriate value based on your environment
- Offer a one-click fix, or a script to apply manually
- Link to additional context and configuration resources
This approach keeps things simple while giving you full control and understanding.
Other Checks Included
While DBAssistant supports a wide range of SQL Server checks, here are a few of the most useful:
- TempDB on the same drive as user databases
- Missing backups on system databases
- High index fragmentation
- AutoShrink or AutoClose enabled
- Wide tables and missing primary keys
- Orphaned users and failed jobs
Each check provides a clear explanation, context for the issue, and recommended steps to resolve it — with automation options where applicable.
Why It Matters
SQL Server environments often suffer from subtle misconfigurations or performance issues that go unnoticed until problems arise. DBAssistant helps uncover these before they become outages or bottlenecks.
- Find and fix overlooked issues quickly
- Apply trusted SQL Server best practices
- Stay proactive with ongoing health reviews
- Save time by automating routine adjustments
Whether you’re managing one instance or many, DBAssistant brings real-world SQL expertise into your daily operations.
