Stored Procedure Length Exceeds Threshold

The longer that a stored procedure or function is, the more difficult it is to maintain or to update without causing more problems.

Many clean coding standards suggest that a function or stored procedure should not be longer than 30 lines.

Do you agree?

If you don’t agree that too long of functions or stored procedures are technical debt, that is just fine, in the Database Health Reports settings dialog you can turn the check. As long as you have coding standards that state one opinion or another then you are doing better than most.

A good coding standard can over-ride many of the items that may be considered as technical debt.
