Introduction to SchemaDrift

Here is a short video with an overview of SchemaDrift and how to get started comparing SQL Server Databases. The latest update of Database Health Monitor includes SchemaDrift for comparing databases.
Steve Stedman here to talk about SchemaDrift and how we can use SchemaDrift to go and compare database schemas and find differences in your database. SchemaDrift is a program created by Stedman Solutions. This is something we’ve had internally in beta for a couple of years, and we’ve been using it ourselves. Finally got it to the point that it’s ready to be used by the public. Here’s a quick demo of how you can use SchemaDrift to find the differences between different databases.
In this video we connect to 2 databases, compare the schema. We see the things that are the same, those that are different and those that only exist on one database or the other.
This is great if you’re working in an environment where you have multiple databases that all need the same schema, or if you’re working in an environment where you’re taking from development or staging and moving changes out to a production server. Can use SchemaDrift to do comparisons and find out what’s missing, and then you can check in some of those migration scripts into source control, if you want to, or just use them to or just use them to get things deployed. And it’s a really handy feature available from download at SchemaDrift.com but it’s also included in the latest install of database health monitor to download it and use it. It’s still in the final beta phases, so it’s free to use at this point, so check it out. Give it a try and let me know what you think of it.
